Our experience in Slovenia

Visiting Slovenia was a bucket list trip for us. I’d heard about this small country for years and couldn’t wait to explore it with my family—even if most people had no idea where it was or why we were going! But after two weeks of road-tripping through Slovenia, I can say it’s one of the best family-friendly destinations we’ve visited.

We rented a car and explored every corner of the country, from hiking in the Julian Alps to soaking up the scenery around Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj. We loved wandering the streets of Ljubljana, a capital city that feels both lively and relaxed. The caves were a huge hit with the kids—especially spotting the mysterious human fish (a nickname for the rare olm that lives in the caves!). We wrapped up our trip with time on the Slovenian coast, soaking in a bit of everything this diverse country has to offer.

Slovenia is easy to get around, packed with unique sights, and full of fun, hands-on experiences that kids will love. Whether you’re into outdoor adventures, history, or just discovering somewhere new, Slovenia is perfect for family travel.

  • Transportation Tip -The best way to explore Slovenia is by car. Renting a car gave us the freedom to visit different regions of the country at our own pace, from the mountains to the coast. We booked through Discover Cars, and it made our road trip around Slovenia easy and stress-free.
